Mandarins are difficult to keep long term. They do best in larger, very mature tanks. We don't recommend attempting to keep one before your aquarium is at least a year old. They are copepod eating machines, they can plow through hundreds of them everyday. Some may train onto frozen foods, but even then, they need a heavy pod population since they're constant grazers.
Mandarins are peaceful little fish, but you shouldn't attempt multiples in the same tank unless it's a larger aquarium, and even then you need to get opposite sex. They will spawn in captivity, but they are very difficult to raise.
